Random photos

The next few are kind of stand alones.

We had gone to the Oakland Museum of California in Oakland, CA and they had a photo booth. Ayla thought this was funny. 

Our last day in California and we went to Sutter Creek, where miners first found gold in the 1840s/1850s.

Here we are leaving California. It was about 6 in the morning.

We were supposed to have been home at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, Georgia time (1 PM Phoenix time). However, there were storms in Atlanta and our flight had to be diverted to Charlotte, NC. (where this photo was taken) We finally got home at about 6:30 or 7 PM.

Terrible selfie. But the sign says "Atlanta". We made it! It was still raining.

Big Trees State Park

More photos!

After getting done at the cave and walking up all those stairs, we went to actual Angel's Camp, CA. It was a small town. From there we went to Big Trees State Park because we hadn't done enough walking. This is one of those big trees (Sequoia) that had been cut down a long, long time ago. It was HUGE!! Ayla was standing on the 5th or 6th step leading up to the stump. I'm  in the very middle of it.

I do hope you can click on photos to make them bigger. This is another Sequoia - according to a volunteer, only the California Red Wood trees are along the coast while inland are the Sequoia. They are in the same family. Big trees are big trees. I am in this photo, but as you can see by the guy standing next to/slightly behind the tree, it's big. 

See! Here I am!

Part of the roots of a fallen tree. According to the same volunteer we talked to, these roots only go about 6-8 feet down in the ground. It was so weird, at the cave we had gone to, there were Oak tree roots 35+ feet down!

I hid in a tree. Ayla could fit in that opening.

Ayla tried to get the whole tree (it had fallen over) in the picture, but ... she couldn't. You can see the ground here and where I am was above her head. She figured the tree was about 9 feet across.

There are a few more photos that need to be added, but Ayla doesn't have them on her phone. 

Moaning Cavern, Angel's Camp, CA

I tried to break the photos up based on where/when they are taken.

Pardon the bad pictures; we had gone to a cave in Angel's Camp, CA. It was VERY dark in there. This was looking down into the cave - 165 feet down! I wasn't scared.

We climbed down 235 steps (it was a long trip). This was looking up. This may have been only 65 feet down, instead of the full 165 feet down.

The tour guide turned off all the lights in the cave. This is the result. I'm there, I promise.

Stockton and San Francisco

Here's more of Legend's time in California. (I think if you click the photos they get bigger, but I'm not sure)

The one thing Ayla tells me they don't have in Georgia - Ghiradelli chocolate outlet stores. So we had to take a picture. This was the only photo Ayla took in Stockton. She forgot to take several photos and wouldn't listen to me.

This is in San Francisco. That's Alcatraz behind me. It was an old prison in San Francisco Bay. It was shut down a long time ago, however you can go on a tour of it now. We didn't. 

Alcatraz again with some boats (I think the one with the tall masts was an old pirate ship).

You're not really in California unless you get a picture with a bear. There are no more grizzly bears in California I'm told.

Starting A Blog

Not very many dragons have their own blog, but Legend does! He's from Phoenix, AZ  (where his brother lives) but currently lives in Georgia.

He had been on vacation and just got around to uploading photos from his trip to California.

This is me with Ayla (she takes all my photos) with her niece, Isi (my brother lives with her dad). 

We had left Phoenix earlier in the day and had just gotten to a hotel in Palm Springs, CA. It was very late. It was a very soft pillow.

We were on the road bright and early to Stockton, CA where Isi's grandparents live. That's wind energy behind me.

I think this is a cousin of mine. You never know when you'll run into family in southern California

So we (Ayla, her parents, and I) stopped to walk around a shopping center. It was called Desert Hills.

Ayla's dad decided to stop at Downtown Disney in Anaheim on the way home. Here I am with a Lego version of Belle and Beast.

I do not approve of dragon fighting. 

So I ran into a friend at Downtown Disney. That meant a picture, of course.

We were on the road before I knew it to avoid traffic. This didn't work. Los Angeles always has traffic.

Watching more traffic along the way. Thankfully it wasn't too bad.

We ended up getting to Stockton sometime that night (we didn't bother to take pictures because it was late and we were tired). More pictures from my trip will be added.
